Pedro Grifol fired: 5 White Sox manager candidates

CHICAGO (BVM) – The Chicago White Sox are on a path to finishing the 2024 season with the worst record in MLB history and recently endured an American League record-tying 21-game losing streak. On Thursday, the franchise officially cut ties with manager Pedro Grifol who went just 89-190 during his time in the Windy City.

The White Sox also relieved bench coach Charlie Montoyo, third-base coach Eddie Rodriguez and assistant hitting coach Mike Tosar of their duties while naming Grady Sizemore their interim manager for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Grifol was hired by the White Sox in 2022 to replace Tony La Russa just a year after the team had won 93 games as AL Central division champions. Things have fallen apart on the South Side since as the White Sox went just 61-101 in year one under Grifol.

Chicago has gone 28-89 this season while setting historically poor marks like becoming the first team to lose 70 games before the All-Star break in mid-July and joining the 1988 Baltimore Orioles as the only AL teams to ever lose 21 games in a row.

A change at the top seemed inevitable in Chicago, and now Jerry Reinsdorf and general manager Chris Getz will search for the franchise’s fourth manager since 2020. Here are five candidates to become the next manager of the White Sox.
