5 NBA teams that could have a breakout season in 2024-25

The Raptors might not be capable of a breakout like the Magic or Pacers had in the Eastern Conference last season quite yet, but challenging for at least a play-in spot seems within reach if things go right. Toronto has an emerging star with Scottie Barnes and the team losing 21 of its final 24 games in 2023-24 coincided with his season-ending injury in early March. A healthy return from Barnes and a full campaign playing alongside midseason acquisitions RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley should help Toronto remain competitive. Meanwhile, a second-year leap from Gradey Dick and immediate contributions from rookie Ja’Kobe Walter, who the Raptors selected 19th overall, could take the team to a playoff-caliber level. Depth remains a concern in Toronto, but the emergence of young talent could help the Raptors surprise in 2024-25.
