Canyon sweeps area contest 3-0

ALICE — Canyon’s volleyball team will continue its Class 6A-II playoff run. The Coogs captured their fifth-straight area championship, defeating Pharr-San Juan-Alamo in a convincing 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-11, 25-13) on Friday night. In the contest, junior outside hitter Marlee Lightsey led Canyon’s attack with 10 kills, followed by junior opposite Maia Aldrich with nine, senior outside hitter Quinn Cross with seven and sophomore Taylor Knuppel with six. Lightsey, junior defensive specialist Callie Brandenburg and junior outside hitter Ava Mead had two aces each.
