Mike Woodson stepping down: 5 Indiana head coach candidates

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (BVM) – Indiana Hoosiers head coach Mike Woodson will step down at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign after four seasons in Bloomington.

Woodson, a former All-American guard with the Hoosiers under Bob Knight, spent over two decades as both an assistant coach and head coach in the NBA before returning to his alma mater in 2021. Expectations were high for Woodson’s tenure at Indiana which began with back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. However, the Hoosiers struggled overall last season, going 19-14 while failing to reach the Big Dance.

Despite entering the 2024-25 season ranked No. 17 in the AP Top 25, Indiana has failed to live up to the hype once again, going just 14-10 overall and 5-8 in the Big Ten. While the Hoosiers will have a chance to work their way back into the NCAA Tournament conversation in the coming weeks, a new era is on the horizon.

Indiana’s head-coaching vacancy should be one of the most appealing jobs available this offseason and several marquee names could be in the mix. Here are five Indiana basketball head coach candidates.
