Kevin Keatts fired: 5 NC State basketball head coach candidates

RALEIGH, N.C. (BVM) – NC State has fired men’s basketball head coach Kevin Keatts following eight years with the program.

Keatts helped lead the Wolfpack to the NCAA Tournament in his first season in Raleigh in 2018, and did so again in back-to-back years in 2023 and 2024. Last year, NC State made an improbable postseason run, winning five games in five days in the ACC tournament to earn an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolfpack continued their success in the Big Dance, becoming just the sixth No. 11 seed to reach the Final Four.

NC State’s late-season turnaround failed to carry over to the 2024-25 campaign as the Wolfpack went just 12-19 this season and 5-15 in ACC play, failing to qualify for the conference tournament. Keatts’ tenure in Raleigh ends with a 151-113 record, including 69-84 against ACC opponents.

Now, the Wolfpack will look to usher in a new era as they begin the search for their next head coach, and several intriguing names could be in the mix to land in Raleigh. Here are five candidates to replace Keatts.
