Johnson Selected NEWMAC Women’s Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week

MARLBOROUGH – Smith College junior Virginia Johnson (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday morning. Johnson totaled 12 defensive rebounds, seven steals, and two blocks in a 2-0 week for Smith. She also poured in a career-high 20 points against Springfield College on Saturday. The Bears limited the Pride to a season-low of 17 made field goals. A starter in 18 games this season, Johnson averages 11.9 points, 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 44.2% from three-point range.
