Atlanta FaZe and the Dallas Empire faced off in a heavyweight esports match Sunday evening. With $1.5 million on the line, they competed in the first-ever Call of Duty League Championship.
With the rise in popularity of esports throughout the country, the Virginia High School League decided to throw its hat in the ring this past year by launching a pilot season for the activity. As the activity began to gain momentum heading into its spring season, COVID-19 restrictions halted much of the forward progress. Though official activities ceased during the spring, officials are optimistic of theactivity’s future in the league.
Esports has become popular all over the country and is beginning to take off at the varsity-level in Alabama.
Although COVID-19 has prevented the University of Delaware Esports team from being able to use their new facility extensively, the Blue Hens have still be working on their craft through unofficial gameplay.
Esports is a growing sport at every level. Last year, it reached junior colleges and Bismarck State College is already one of the best.
