Nate Northington, a running back and defensive back for the Kentucky Wildcats in the 1960s, changed the game forever when he entered the Sept. 30, 1967 game against Mississippi. With his three minutes and 17 seconds of playing time, Northington became the first African American player to participate in a Southeastern Conference football game. Last year, Northington was honored for his achievements with an induction into the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.
