Lakeshore’s Westcott to play football and baseball for SLU

Lakeshore’s Westcott to play football and baseball for SLU

MANDEVILLE, La. (BVM) — Christian Westcott comes to compete and when he steps onto the field everyone focuses on what he is going to do next.

“Christian Westcott is absolutely remarkable,” Fontainebleau High School head football coach Chris Blocker said in a Gatorade press release. “He is very hard to defend and the intensity he brings to the game is second to none. He is one heck of a player.”

At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Westcott dominated both sides of the ball on the gridiron. As Lakeshore High School’s quarterback, he passed for 2,346 yards and 30 touchdowns his senior season. He also rushed for 1,181 yards and crossed the goal line 35 times. Not only was he wreaking havoc on the offensive side of the ball, he was also a menace on defense. Westcott recorded 47½ tackles, 19½ tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, 6½ sacks, and two interceptions.

Westcott is a highly-talented baseball player. During his junior campaign, he batted .474 as a shortstop and was the Titans’ closer. But with the COVID-19 outbreak, his baseball season was cut short after four games.

The brief spring season gave Westcott more time to focus on schoolwork. Throughout his high school career, he maintained an A average in the classroom.

Along with his excellent work in school, Westcott spent a lot of time in the community. He was the vice president of Lakeshore’s chapter of the Future Farmers of America. He volunteered locally and gave food to the needy. He has also donated his time to the Miracle League where children with disabilities play baseball.

While playing an important role in the community, Westcott has also played an important role in the success of Lakeshore’s football program. This summer, the Titans are starting a new tradition called “JERSEY 9,” in his honor. The LSU Tigers have a similar tradition they do within their football program with the No. 7.

With his senior football season completed and a baseball season cut short, Westcott was still drawing college interest. In February, he signed his national letter of intent to stay in state and will be attending Southeastern Louisiana University. Playing football and baseball for the Lions, Westcott aims to excel as a two-sport athlete.
