Georgia football lands top 100 tight end
NAPA, Calif. (BVM) – Todd Hartley just might be due for a raise.
The University of Georgia assistant coach helped bring in Darnell Washington, a five-star tight end recruit from Las Vegas in the Class of 2020, and earned a commitment from another elite talent at the position for the Class of 2021.
Brock Bowers, one of the best tight ends in the country, made Bulldogs fans very happy on Monday with his announcement to spend his collegiate career in Athens.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound versatile pass-catcher is the nation’s No. 92 prospect, No. 3 tight end, and No. 11 overall recruit in California. Bowers chose Georgia over offers from other programs such as Washington, Notre Dame, USC and more.
Following a pair of July unofficial visits to both Georgia and Washington, Bowers’ decision ultimately came down to his rapport with Hartley.
“My relationship with Coach Hartley – it’s really good,” Bowers told 247Sports. “I like him – like he seems like a really good dude. He’s just expressed to me how much they want me there, and shoot, just like how they don’t really have anyone with my skill set there I guess. We have a really good relationship. He talks to my dad every other week and my dad likes him. My mom likes him also. So sometimes we’ll all get on the phone and talk with him.”
Bowers is correct when he says Georgia currently doesn’t have a player with his skill set, because not many teams do. The soon-to-be-senior’s 1,098 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on just 39 catches for a mind-numbing 28 yards per reception last season gives you an idea of Bowers’ supreme upside.
The Napa native is the future of football and the tight end position. Standing at 6-foot-3 and clocking a 4.55 40-yard dash, Bowers is a mismatch for any linebacker, safety or corner. His 40-inch vertical gives him the upper hand in any jump ball or goal line situation.

Bowers’ ability to be used both on the perimeter as a wide receiver and in the box as a traditional tight end will make him a versatile weapon in offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s scheme. The combination of route-running, speed, athleticism and toughness as a ball carrier has led to Bowers’ comparison to one of the NFL’s brightest young stars at the tight end position: Noah Fant of the Denver Broncos.
“(Bowers) has the speed to burn a linebacker and separate from a defensive back,” Brandon Huffman, 247Sports’ national recruiting editor said. “Tracks the ball well, uses good body control and his hands to make his catches and routinely finds the soft spot in a defense.”
With a year left of high school football, Bowers could arrive in Athens in 2021 looking even taller, leaner and ready to make an immediate impact for the Bulldogs.
