Central Illinois Girls Hockey Association – Revolution

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Central Illinois Girls Hockey Association (CIGHA) – Revolution has a small but mighty following. Since it began in 2016, CIGHA’s mission is to promote teamwork, physical fitness, leadership, and education for female student athletes.

Despite its short history, the Revolution has carved out a strong presence in the regional hockey scene. After four years, the organization has brought home many wins. They have always been seen as the underdog, but proved their merit as 14U State Champions during the 2018-2019. And during the 2019-2020 season, both the 14U and 19U teams won the Irish Cup tournament in South Bend, Indiana.

CIGHA Vice President Melissa DeSanty has been involved with the organization since her daughter joined the inaugural Revolution team. Melissa shares, “As a parent, I would say the organization does a great job living up to their mission. The coaches provide tremendous support to develop the players, not just on the ice, but as individuals with focus on other skills as well—listening and adapting to feedback, leadership, setting and achieving goals, conflict resolution, and fostering teamwork.”

Players come from all over Central Illinois and even as far away as St. Louis and the Quad Cities to play for the Revolution. With an eye on the future, the Revolution continues to focus on building strong, focused female athletes.
