Newest addition to USL, Queensboro FC, unveils new logo

QUEENS, N.Y. (BVM) — The United Soccer League (USL) is getting its newest team set for 2022. With the announcement of a team coming to Queens back in 2019, the most recent announcement regarding Queensboro FC has come with the releasing of its logo and colors.

The team’s newly released logo showcases a large “Q” as its centerpiece, while displaying the team’s main color, purple, because of the colors significance to the 7 train.

“Queensboro FC’s logo unveiling is a major step in bringing people together across Queens, New York City, and the world through their love of soccer — and to bring the championship mindset back to our city,” Queensboro FC co-founder Jonathan Krane said.” It has been a challenging year, especially for New Yorkers, and our club is dedicated to giving the Queens community something special to look forward to now. In more ways than sport, New York will come back, because we always play to win.”

The team had hoped to debut in 2021 but with the unexpected nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team is looking to make its debut in March 2022.

Queensboro FC co-founder, David Villa, has taken a significant role in the team’s operation. The professional soccer player and Spain World Cup winner, will be officially retired from his playing career by the time the organization debuts, and will focus on much of the day-to-day operations of the team along with his ownership responsibilities.

In a statement to ESPN back in 2019, Villa talked about his focus of bringing the sport to Queens.

“Bringing professional football to Queens’ diverse community is an exciting and unique opportunity,” Villa said. “The beautiful game already lives here, thanks to the melting pot of cultures who are so passionate about the sport. I can’t think of a better place for QBFC to grow. I’m proud to be part of this project.”

With Villa’s experience in the community, the professional soccer player is excited to bring a team to the borough.

“I’m proud to say I’ve had a long-running connection to Queens,” Villa said. “I lived here for four years while I was developing my football academies, teaching kids not just how to play the sport but to appreciate the game’s values, too. Queens is — and always has been — special. You feel the passion for football walking the streets.

“It’s why we’re proud to bring a professional team to this borough. It’s the obvious next step following the clinics, summer camps, academies and various other programs for boys and girls we’ve held in Astoria, Flushing and at Queens College.”

Back in July, Queensboro named Josep Gombau as its head coach and Sporting Director. With 24 years of coaching experience, the new Queensboro FC coach’s work has spanned over four continents during his time in the game.
