Jacorriah Bracey aims to continue her success at Ole Miss

RULEVILLE, Miss. (BVM) — After a successful senior season at Ruleville Central High School, 2019-2020, Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year, Jacorriah Bracey is set to begin her collegiate career at Ole Miss.

“Bracey was by far the best player we faced this season,” Ridgeland High School head girls basketball Wade Hawkins said in a Gatorade press release. “She can score off the catch or off the dribble, and she gets shots for herself and for others.”

Bracey led the Ruleville Central Tigers to an 18-4 record last season. A 5-foot-11 guard, Bracey averaged 35 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists through those 22 games. She continued her dominance as the Tigers marched their way to the Class 3A state title game. Bracey and the Tigers squad would ultimately lose to Senatobia High School 57-45.

Although her senior season ended on a sour note, Bracey was awarded some of the state’s top awards. Bracey was awarded the Region 3 Player of the Year, named to the First Team All-State Team, and was named to her third Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen.

Bracey showed that she could dominate on the court during her senior season, but she also showed that she could play a pivotal role off the court too. Bracey continuously volunteered in the local community, helping at after-school programs for elementary school states. She also volunteered her time at her local nursing home.

Along with her exceptional volunteer work off the court, Bracey didn’t let anything affect her schoolwork. She maintained an A average in the classroom throughout her prep career.

With her illustrious high school career behind her, Bracey is continuing her career on the hardwood at the University of Mississippi. Bracey, who plans on majoring in exercise science, signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at the university last fall. As one of the nation’s top recruits, she drew plenty of interest but eventually decided to stay in her home state.

“JB was our first ever verbal commitment here in the 2020 class,” Ole Miss Women’s Head basketball coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin said in a tweet. “She believed in us from the date she was with us. JB can score the ball from all three levels. She’s a coach’s kid, so she unranked the expectations from a coach and the demands that came with playing under pressure. I expect Jacorriah to be a combo guard for us, as she will play both the point guard and the wing.”

Jacorriah Bracey is one of the most talented athletes in Mississippi. She works hard on her craft, and it shows. As the Lady Rebels prepare for the 2020 season, expect Bracey to make an impact right from the jump.
