Ascent team competitive rock climbing at Mesa Rim
RENO, Nev. — You may have noticed rock climbing has increased in popularity over the past several years. There’s been a lot of money put into large indoor climbing spaces across the country. They’re popping up everywhere, from large cities to small towns, thanks to passionate climbers and savvy entrepreneurs. The two young ladies in the picture are on the competitive climbing team at Mesa Rim on Harvard Way. Georgia (in blue) attended a day camp at Mesa Rim last summer as part of rotating sport themed day camp through Skiing is Believing, LLC. She loved it, turns out, she’s also really good at it. She tried out for “team” and made it! It’s now her “thing!” Georgia’s mom shared that the whole family now enjoys the sport adding, “it’s a great family activity that all 5 of us (our kids ages range from 4-11 years old) enjoy regularly.” While Georgia loves harnessing up and hitting the high ropes, her Dad enjoys the challenges of bouldering. One thing to consider, the gear can get pretty expensive but most indoor facilities offer rentals and lessons for a very reasonable price. Mom concluded, “a day or week long camp is a great way to get your child introduced to the sport!”
