First Capital Football Club

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — When Zach Breth moved back home to Chillicothe in 2007, he returned with a passion for soccer. There was an existing organization called CSSA Capitals. In 2008, Zach teamed up with Gary Blumberg and the Chillicothe Soccer Academy. They began restructuring the Capitals, resulting in the First Capital Football Club. First Capital FC formed with the goal of being a youth soccer structure which would provide opportunities for anyone in the area interested in club soccer. Gary Blumberg moved away in 2009 and eventually Tyler Wickham joined the staff. He is currently the Assistant Director of Coaching and a vital part of the club.

First Capital FC is a club comprised of around 20 teams with approximately 275 players each year. The club represents more than 20 different school districts. Teams compete in a few different leagues and tournaments throughout the year. The club offers an academy for players ages 6-9 who play in friendlies with other clubs. The middle tier, ages 10-14, typically play in the Mid Ohio Select Soccer League throughout Columbus. Older teams comprised of 15-18 year-olds play in the Buckeye Premier League. This is a statewide league with games played in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, and some games hosted in Chillicothe.

When asked about the goals of the club, Zach Breth, Director of Coaching said, “We are a collection of players, coaches, and families devoted to the development of soccer in Chillicothe and the surrounding areas. We believe in building a competitive soccer culture that breeds positive player development both on and off the field.” Zach spoke highly of the Coppel Athletic Complex saying, “We host teams from all over the state and train there during the season.”
