Ross County youth baseball

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Ross County has a rich history in youth baseball. There are several youth leagues in the area that have been around for many years. Let’s take a look at a couple local organizations.

The Scioto Valley Youth League has been in operation since 1961 at Mary Lou Patton Park in Chillicothe Ohio. Currently Dean Brown is league President and Eric Beam is Vice President. The league has 12 organizations each with 1 team at each different age level with a total of over 400 kids. 3 divisions starting with C (6-8 year olds), B (9-10 year olds) and A (11-12 year olds). The league’s founding fathers signed a 100 year lease with the city when the league was formed. They will be playing at Mary Lou Patton Park for years to come. This year’s season and tournament champions for each age division are Graphics C division, State Farm B division, and Ross County Merchants A division. Congratulations to State Farm B team on going 26-0!

The Chillicothe Youth Baseball League plays their games in the Chillicothe Park annex and at Diamond 1 located in Yoctangee Park. The league has been around since the 70’s, maybe even longer. The CYBL League consists of Players from the age 4-12. Kids are divided into 4 different age groups, Tee-ball (3-6 year olds), Coach Pitch (6-8 year olds), Minors (9-10 year olds), and Majors (11-12 year olds). The champions for this season are Amvets Post 4 Coach Pitch, Amvets Post 4 Minors, and Post 62 Majors. Tournament champions were McDonald’s Coach Pitch, Amvets Post 4 Minors, and Post 62 Majors. League President Gary Wheeler said that the league is always looking for ways to grow and seeking out volunteers to help run the league.

Green Township Youth League started in the early 90’s. The goal of the league is to provide a fun and exciting environment to teach our youth the fundamentals of baseball and softball. They offer youth baseball and softball for boys and girls ages 4 – 12. Games are played at their facility in Kingston, Ohio. The boys champions this year are Washington 8U, Laurelville 10U, and Laurelville 12U. The girls champions this year are Washington 8U, Washington 10U, and Laurelville 12U. The league is currently working to continue improving their facilities with hopes to grow the league and provide opportunities to more kids.
