Panthers beat Chargers in last conference game of the season

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (BVM) — Plymouth Panthers win their last conference varsity volleyball game of the season against the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers.

On Thursday night, Plymouth High School held a conference match at home against Kettle Moraine Lutheran.

The girls played four sets in the match with the Panthers winning three out of the four against the Chargers.

The Panthers took sets one, three, and four while the Chargers won the second set.

In set one, senior Ellie Staehling scored the first point for the Panthers. Junior, Molly McConnaha, had several successful blocks. The game ended with a score of 25 to 20.

The Chargers won set two, but the Panthers played some great defense. Junior, Taylor Miller, had several dives to try and keep the ball in play. There was a long volley in the middle of the game ending with the point going to Plymouth.

The Panthers came back strong in the third set winning 25 to 16. Senior, Addie Plate scored several points in the game. One of the points was earned from a powerful spike by Plate onto the opponent’s side.

The last set of the night was a close game. The Panthers started behind but soon took the lead over the Chargers. The Chargers fought till the end, but the Panthers came out on top. The score of the last game was 25 to 23.

Seniors Staehling, Plate, and Tess Huhn were fortunate to have a win to end their careers.

Plymouth belongs to the East Central Conference. Thursday night’s win put Plymouth ahead of Kettle Moraine Lutheran who they were tied with prior to the match in the conference standings. Three teams did not compete at all this season in the East Central Conference, but Plymouth has the highest win percentage in the conference.

The Panthers had 5 conference wins and one loss this season and eight wins and two losses overall.

It does not seem there will be a postseason for the Panthers, at least at this time. This was the last game for them this fall.
