Shedeur Sanders flips commitment to Jackson State

CEDAR HILL, Texas (BVM) — One of the nation’s top recruits has changed his commitment status. Shedeur Sanders, the son of the Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, will now be attending Jackson State University next fall.

Shedeur is one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the Class of 2021. Shedeur is No. 60 in ESPN’s Top 300 for his class. The four-star recruit is No. 8 in the state of Texas, and he is ranked No. 12 nationally. He is the highest-rated recruit to ever commit to JSU.

“I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to help level the playing field and pursue equality for HBCU [historically black colleges and universities],” Shedeur said on Twitter. “Dad I got your back.”

Before this season, Shedeur passed for 47 touchdowns, completed 74% of his passes, and threw for nearly 3,500 yards. Along with his father as offensive coordinator, Shedeur helped lead the Tigers to their third straight state championship. Recently, the Tigers concluded their season with an overall record of 8-3 and a win over Heir Football Academy in the Texas Christian Athletic League National Championship.

With his commitment finalized, Shedeur has been actively recruiting some of his peers to JSU. Since he made his announcement, former Florida State cornerback Isaiah Bolden, three-star athlete Herman Smith, and former Tennessee walk-on Nyels Gaddy announced they would be attending the HBCU as well.

Along with his recent commitment to Jackson State, Shedeur had the pleasure of working out with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady this past summer. Brady is one of the most decorated NFL players in the sport and for Shedeur to receive mentorship from him is truly special.

As Shedeur and the rest of the nation look forward to him suiting up for the Tigers, look for him to make a huge impact when he steps onto the field.
