Illinois State shatters numerous records in 177-108 victory over Greenville

NORMAL, Ill. — lllinois State Redbirds broke numerous records in their win over Greenville last week by a 177-108 margin. Two NCAA Division I records were set in total field goal percentage (84.3 percent) and assists (57). The team also set some new ISU and Missouri Valley Conference records including most points in a game record.

Often, having four players in double digits for scoring secures a win. In this case, 10 Illinois State players scored in double-figures! Freshman Emon Washington brought 30 points off of the bench to lead in scoring. Harouna Sissoko scored 21, Abdou Ndiaye 18, DJ Horne 17, Antonio Reeves and Alex Kotov 16, Alston Andrews 14, Josiah Strong 13, Dedric Boyd and Sy Chatman 12 each.

Other impressive stats included Strong dishing out a game-high 11 assists. Horne assisting with 10, and Dedric Boyd and Emon Washington having eight and seven respectively. The Birds also out-rebounded Greenville with 57 compared to their 30, stole the ball 10 times and blocked six of Greenville’s shot attempts.

Notable milestones set in the win include:

-57 assists breaking the previous record of 44 set by Colorado against George Mason on Dec. 2, 1995.
-84.3% team field goal percentage (70-of-83) breaking the previous record of 83.3 set by Maryland, who went 15-of-18 against South Carolina on Jan. 9, 1971.
-94-points in the second half and the 83-point first half are the two-highest scoring halves in program history.
-The 94-point second half is tied for the fourth-highest scoring half in NCAA Division I history.
-The 285 points between the two teams is the sixth-highest combined scoring game in NCAA Division I history.
-School records set include: Points in a game, points in the first half, points in the second half, scoring margin, field goals made, field goal percentage, and assists.
-MVC records set include: Points in a game, combined points, field goals made, field goal percentage in a game, and assists.
-Emon Washington’s 12-of-13 shooting day is a new single-game school record
-Emon Washington’s 30 points are the most in a game by a freshman since Bubbles Hawkins also scored 30 against Jacksonville on Feb. 16, 1973, and is tied for the third-most in a game by a freshman in program history. His 12-of-13 shooting night is a new school record for a freshman.
-The Redbird Arena records that were erased include points (previous mark was 105), points in first half, points in second half, scoring margin, field goals made, field goal percentage, rebound margin, assists, and the second-most field goals attempted and rebounds.
