Bishop Gorman’s Sarah Aguilar signs with Dakota College at Bottineau for softball

LAS VEGAS — Sarah Aguilar is a 17 year old high school senior at Bishop Gorman High School in the Las Vegas Valley.

At first, Sarah seems like a regular teenage girl but after meeting her in person and her sweet parents Louie Aguilar and Yolie Aguilar I realized that I was not exactly right.

Sarah is a kind person who always strives for perfection in everything she does: excellent school work, brilliant participation in her debate club, great dedication at her job at the Republican Party, and of course amazing performances in her passion: Softball.

Sarah is the star of her high school softball team and one of the best players in the valley at her young age.

Softball and sports in general is a family matter in the Aguilar family. Her Dad, who is big into sports himself, has been coaching softball players all his life and has been playing pretty much all the popular games you can possibly think about. And her mom was also a softball player in her high school and college years.

Sarah got introduced to softball by her dad at the age of 4 and kept playing it in all the states the family moved into when her dad was in the Marine Corp: California, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada…

She has tried many different sports along the years but nothing sticks quite like softball to her. Softball is her thing and in her own words “she cannot get away from her sport”.

The Aguilars are an exceptionally supportive family that have accompanied Sarah in her journey. Their family has been traveling almost every week-end during the season to Utah, Arizona, and Colorado to support and be there for their champion.

It’s a big commitment but the Aguilars see the talent, great dedication and determination of their daughter and want to be with her through it all.

She has been in her varsity high school softball team since freshman year, plays club ball, plays with a local team Rage and also occasionally with a St-George, UT team.

Sarah also has additionally been chosen to be a representative of Ntense Sport Apparel, a new sport clothing brand.

Recently her endless efforts to be the best she can have paid off since she’s been recruited and signed by Dakota College at Bottineau and got an offer from the University of Jamestown, ND.

On top of being a great athlete mentally and physically, Sarah is also a hard worker at school work and always makes sure to get above 3.5 GPA.

She wants to become a lawyer, a prosecutor specifically. Sarah definitively wants to play in college but does not necessarily plan to start a professional career in softball.

Unfortunately, like many athletes, dancers, and performers Covid-19 has been devastating for Sarah and her team.

Sarah’s team was pulled out of the field in the middle of a game during a high school tournament, as the governor announced that Nevada had to shut down back in March. All their games got canceled for the season and the girls had to deal with the frustration and disappointment to not be able to show what they’ve been working so hard for.

Sarah also made team US Ringor and was supposed to represent the USA competing in the Dominican republic until the event was shut down due to the pandemic.

Nevertheless, Sarah found the motivation to train every single day at home in her backyard, and at a field with her best friend and dad, to stay in shape, to practice her pitching, as well as her style during the quarantine.

She also started picking up a spot in different teams in neighboring states that didn’t go through a global shut down.

When not at school or on the field, you can find Sarah hanging out at home with her parents and her friends. She says: « I’m home body! I just like to spend time with my family but I have friends too! »

The Aguilars are truly amazed by their daughter’s performance and want her to always remember that if she is where she is it’s not a coincidence but the result of hard work and the constant dedication that she puts in everything she does.

Sarah is an only child which makes it even more difficult for the Aguilars to send their only daughter away to college, but they are so excited for her to get her college experience.

Yolie Aguilar said “She is always so focused all the time, that I want to make sure that she gets to love her teenager life too. I want her to go out and some fun in college.”

And considering how well she has done so far, I do not doubt a second that she will score high at being a college student as well!

Good luck Sarah!
