Ostroski helps Holland Hall capture first-ever title

TULSA, Okla. (BVM) — The No. 2-ranked Holland Hall Dutchmen finished off an impressive 2020 season with a win over No. 1-ranked Lincoln Christian.

After joining the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association five years ago, Holland Hall has been chomping at the bit to compete for a state title.

Led by defensive star Owen Ostroski, the Dutchmen accomplished that goal last week by beating Lincoln Christian 35-7 in the Class 3A championship game to earn their first-ever state title

“Pretty much when last season ended, we knew we had an absurd amount of talent coming back, Ostroski said. “This offseason, the way we were training and working out, it was clear that things were different. Everyone was a little more motivated. We all knew we had the talent and the chemistry to win a state title.”

During the state title run, Ostroski put together an all-around performance. He recorded 94 tackles, 15 sacks, and 41 tackles for loss. With a fiery passion for the game of football, Ostroski can be seen making plays on either side of the ball when he lines up as a tight end or on the offensive line. He can impact the game in a variety of ways.

“I think he’ll play early in college,” Holland Hall head football coach Tag Gross said. “He’s the hardest-working guy in the room.”

“[I look forward to] representing my family, myself, and the people that have invested their time into getting me to [this] stage,” Ostroski said. “I’m excited to show that all their hard work didn’t go to waste.

Owen takes what he does seriously. And through his days at Holland Hall, he put in the work and looks back on some of the greatest times he’s had in his life.

“Ever since my dad started coaching at Holland hall in 2005, I have always been around Holland hall football,” Ostroski said. “When I was little, I idolized Holland Hall players. I thought they were the coolest on earth. Growing up, my dream was to be a Holland Hall player. I’ve got to live out that dream for four years. So hopefully I’ve done [my job] and made the younger kids proud of being a Holland Hall player.”

Along with representing his family and carrying on the football tradition, Ostroski is also looking to pay homage to the late Pat Tillman.

“He’s a big role model for me and my brother,” Ostroski said. “The way he lived his life [is encouraging]. The stuff he did, it’s not something [a lot] of people do, and it really takes a lot of heart and courage to be him. And hopefully one day I can be the type of man he was.”

Ostroski’s football career has been a successful one up to this point. And with a state championship under his belt and a roster spot with the Black Knights waiting, he will look to continue his success on the gridiron.
