Will Hall named Southern Mississippi football head coach
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (BVM) — Before the 2020 football season came to a close, the University of Southern Mississippi made a change and hired the school’s 22nd head coach, Will Hall.
Hall is a native of Amory, Miss., and he was serving under head coach Willie Fritz as the offensive coordinator at Tulane University for the past two seasons. As the offensive coordinator, the Green Wave offense scored a total of 105 touchdowns, averaged 5,295.5 yards per season, and nearly six yards a play.
“Will Hall has done a fabulous job as our offensive coordinator here at Tulane University for the past two seasons,” Green Wave head football coach Wille Fritz said in a statement. Will has been a great asset to our football program and he will be missed.”
Along with his offensive knowledge, Hall also brings a great deal of football experience to Southern Mississippi too.
As a college quarterback, he won the Harlon Hill Trophy, the top player in Division II, at North Alabama. Before his short stint at North Alabama, he also was a two-time Junior College All-American quarterback at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Hall also has made numerous stops as an assistant coach, most notably as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Louisiana-Lafayette. He was also the associate head coach and tight ends coach at Memphis University in 2018.
As a coach at the collegiate level, Hall put together an overall record of 56-20 with five years in the Gulf South Conference. He coached at West Alabama from 2011-2013, and in 2014-2016 he coached at West Georgia. While in the GSC, he won two coaches of the year and led three GSC championship teams.
With Hall now running the show, he will be aiming to lead the Golden Eagles back to a bowl game.
“I wanted this job for a long time,” Hall said in a press conference. “I’m honored to be your football coach. I’m honored to be the football coach at a place with such a rich and storied tradition.”
