Jiu Jitsu hits Ross County
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Nestled in historic downtown Chillicothe, you’ll find a newly relocated gym. Monster Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been in the area since November 2018. Professor James “Monster” Mullins opened the Monster Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Self Defense Academy in Chillicothe with the mission of helping every student reach his or her highest potential through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Monster began his teaching career in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2007, as Monster Brazilian Jiu Jitsu within The Wheeler Academy. After receiving his Blue Belt from Master Royce Gracie, he continued his training with Master Helio “Soneca” Moreira and received his Black Belt in 2008.
Originally located on East Main street in Chillicothe, you’ll now find them on Mulberry Street. Inside their new facility you’ll find an open space featuring a large mat where students of all ages starting at age 4 learn the grappling-based martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Monster Brazilian Jiu Jitsu helps students of all ages reach their goals of fitness, self-confidence, anti-bullying, self-defense, competition, and other personal goals.
Here is a small list of what Monster Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has to offer:
Mini-Monsters BJJ Program for 4-6 year olds, attend 2 times per week
Kids BJJ Program for 7-13 year olds, attend 3 times per week
Adult BJJ Program for ages 14 and up
Beginner adults have the option of 7 class choices per week
Intermediate adults have the option of 9 class choices per week
1-month trial without a membership
Monster Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu participates in the Arnold Classic with Grappling Industries as a team member with Monster as the primary coach. Students can choose to participate in other nearby Grappling Industries, Fuji, and NAGA tournaments with assistant coaches providing coverage for those events. Traditional Gracie Jiu Jitsu self-defense is the focus of Monster BJJ as compared to some other schools that focus on Sport Jiu Jitsu.
