Marreon Jackson continues to dazzle in senior season at Toledo as he leads the Rockets to a hot 16-5 start

TOLEDO, Ohio (BVM)In a 76-74 victory over Kent State on Jan. 23, Marreon Jackson moved into 10th place on the University of Toledo’s alltime scoring list.

The 6-foot-1 senior guard from Cleveland poured in a season-high 31 points in a back-and-forth battle against the Golden Flashes, helping Toledo to a 13-4 record (8-1 in MAC).

Jackson played prep basketball at Garfield Heights High School where he posted averages of 23.2 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists as a senior while earning second team Division I all-state honors.

Jackson, cousin of former Toledo star Willie Jackson, is coming off his junior season where he posted career high averages in points (19.8 PPG), rebounds (4.3 RPG) and steals (1.5 SPG). He scored a careerhigh 37 points against Central Michigan on Feb. 25, 2020 as well.

He also earned second team All-MAC honors and was selected as MAC West Division Player of the Week on three occasions.

The Rockets finished with a 17-15 record last season and defeated Western Michigan in the first round of the MAC tournament before the season was cut short due to COVID-19

There are still Covid restrictions with this current season, but Marreon is still putting on a strong senior campaign with averages of 16.7 points, 5.0 rebounds (career high), 5.7 assists (career high), 2.1 steals (career high), and shooting 93.1% from the free throw line — ranking eighth in the country.

Marreon is on pace to etch himself in the University of Toledo’s record books. He currently sits in fifth place on Toledo’s alltime assist list and third on their alltime threepointersmade list.

Records aside, Marreon is focused on leading this Toledo team to the postseason by winning the MAC tournament and potentially earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Last season, the Rockets defeated Western Michigan in the first round of the MAC tournament but their second round matchup against Bowling Green was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Marreon has shown many times that he is not afraid of the moment, and he has had that mentality since he was a freshman.

In the 2018 MAC semifinals against Eastern Michigan, he tallied 26 points with a career-high eight three-pointers made.

As the season presses on, Marreon continues to build on his legacy at Toledo. After his 19-point performance against Akron on Feb. 2, he moved into ninth place on the all-time scoring list.

Going into the second half of the season, Marreon will continue to finish off his senior year strong and take this Toledo team as far as he can.
