Kayhon Russell joining Sooner football program

OKLAHOMA CITY (BVM) — Following a Cotton Bowl victory at the end of the 2020-21 season, the University of Oklahoma has bolstered its 2021 season by having a top-15 recruiting class. One of the players who is a part of that class is Kayhon Russell.

Three weeks ago, he announced via Twitter that he would be joining Oklahoma as a preferred walk-on.

“This is something I’ve been praying for since a little kid,” Russell said in his tweet. “I would like to thank GOD and my family for placing me in a great position, also I’d like to thank my coaches on the court and on the field for always believing in me and all the love and support.”

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound wide receiver is coming off an impressive senior season. Having played only one year of varsity football, Russell was able to continue his dominant play on the gridiron and perform at a high level. According to Max Preps, Russell only played in eight out of 11 games this past season, but he was able to reel in 37 catches for 383 yards. He also scored twice.

Russell has now become Oklahoma’s third preferred walk-on to commit, joining quarterbacks Been Harris and Ralph Rucker. All three are multi-sport athletes at the high school level, but now, they will aim to make an impact on the gridiron together as Sooners.
