Schlossnagle continues to find success with TCU

Fort Worth, Texas (BVM) — On Feb. 21, 2016, with a 5-0 victory over Loyola Marymount, TCU Baseball Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle surpassed Lance Brown to become TCU Baseball’s all-time most winningest coach.

But before coming to TCU, Schlossnagle held coaching positions at multiple schools. He started as a pitching coach in 1990 at his alma mater, Elon University. After that, he moved on to be a pitching coach at Clemson University in 1993. Schlossnagle then accepted an offer to be the Associate Head Coach at Tulane University in 1994. He coached them to a College World Series appearance in 2001. He then spent one year as UNLV’s head coach in 2002, and coached them to a 47-17 overall record and earned the program their first NCAA Tournament bid since 1996.

Schlossnagle joined the program in 2003. Ever since then, Schlossnagle and the Horned Frogs have known nothing but success.

When Schlossnagle joined the program in 2003, he promised to take TCU Baseball to new heights, including conference championships, NCAA Regionals, and College World Series appearances. He got to work right away while in the first season as head coach; TCU reached the NCAA Regionals and set a new record for most wins in a season, going 39-23.

TCU continued to reach the NCAA Regionals every year following that season. In 2010, Schlossnagle finally delivered on his promise and led the Frogs to the 2010 College World Series. They finished with an overall record of 54-14 that season and were ranked No. 3 in the nation.

Since reaching Omaha in 2010, TCU has reached Omaha four times under Schlossnagle (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). They’ve captured two Mountain West championships, and when they moved to the Big 12 Conference, they captured two Big 12 titles.

Schlossnagle has gone on to win three National Coach of the Year Awards, including one in 2010 and one in 2016.

Establishing a culture of winning and success at TCU, Schlossnagle delivered on his promise when he first came to the program.

Schlossnagle coached many players who are in the MLB today. Including Matt Carpenter, Jake Arrieta, and Andrew Cashner.

After having two sub-par seasons in 2018 and 2019, TCU Baseball was off to a hot start in 2020. After beating the at the time No. 2 team in the nation, UCLA, TCU posted an overall record of 11-4, looking like they would have yet another successful year. COVID-19, unfortunately, canceled the rest of that season.

Now in 2021, TCU is off to another great start with a record of 16-7 and is ranked No. 12 team in the nation.

He inked a contract extension with TCU in the summer of 2016 and continues to have his eyes set on a College World Series title.
