Boston College has trio of Eagles named to U.S women’s national team

NEWTON, Mass. (BVM) — Boston College’s Cayla Barnes will be joining some past Eagles on the United States women’s hockey team this year. The redshirt junior defenseman was named to the team along with former Eagles defenseman Megan Keller and forward Alex Carpenter.

Barnes is coming off a solid season where she helped Boston College to a 14-6 record and an NCAA tournament appearance. The Eagles captain tallied a teamhigh 13 points on her way to being named a finalist for the Hockey East Player of the Year.

The trio of Eagles were members of the U.S. team that won a fifth consecutive gold medal at the 2019 IIHF World Championships in Finland. Carpenter has been a part of all five of those gold-medal winning teams while Keller has been featured on four of the winning squads. Carpenter has been playing for the KRS Vanke Rays in the WHL while Keller has been skating for the PWHPA. 

All three were planning to team up again in 2020 after their selections, but the tournament that was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They will get their chance to play together again when the 2021 World Championships begin in May.
