Greenwood High senior baseball player Scheer throws no-hitter in season opener

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (BVM) — Despite not taking the field in two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic canceling last season, Greenwood High School senior pitcher Connor Scheer certainly didn’t show any signs of rust in the Gators’ season opener against Allen County-Scottsville. The lefty would take care of the Patriots batters throughout the game, throwing a no-hitter in the Gators’ 3-0 victory.

Scheer, who will be playing college baseball for Schoolcraft College next year, was dazzling in the appearance, striking out 15 of the 22 batters he faced in the seven innings of action. Scheer was one pitch away from a perfect game with a hit-by-pitch being the only black mark on the senior’s memorable opening day.

The senior used mostly a flurry of fastballs to get past the Patriots bats and his defense would help him out on the few occasions that the offense would make contact.

With a certified ace in Scheer leading the Gators rotation, Greenwood will be a team to keep an eye on throughout the spring season. Fans will be keeping their eyes peeled for the next time Scheer takes the rubber for the Gators too because you never know what kind of encore performance the senior might have up his sleeve.
