Thomas Dale freshman quarterback Minter picks up college offer from Virginia

CHESTER, Va. (BVM) — Some college athletic offers carry more weight than others. That’s especially true if it is a student-athlete’s first collegiate offer. Perhaps none could get much bigger than the offer Thomas Dale freshman quarterback Ethan Minter received April 1.

Minter announced on his Twitter that he received a scholarship offer to continue playing football at in-state University of Virginia. Not only was the news huge for the fact it was a Division I offer to an in-state institution no less, but it was also the freshman’s first collegiate scholarship offer.

So far this season, the freshman has been able to stare adversity in the face, showing poise even though he is much younger than many of his opponents or even teammates. In four games this season, Minter has led the Knights to victory each time out. So far, the freshman has been able to impress with both his arm and his legs, scoring over 50-yard touchdowns both through the air and on the ground this season.

With his ability to both throw the ball well and scramble with his legs, Minter will likely be able to rack up more offers as he grows even more as a football player. While the offer may be his first, Minter has football in his blood. His brother, TJ, plays college football for Hampden-Sydney College.

The Knights have a star on their hands in Minter and the Cavaliers are hoping they have found a diamond in the rough in their own backyard.
