Traylor ready to find new home after spectacular tenure at Purdue

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (BVM) — Purdue women’s basketball star Kayana Traylor has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal. She became one of many Boilermakers to do so, joining former teammate Karissa McLaughlin — the program’s leader in three-point field goals made.

Fatou Diagne, Tamara Farquhar and Bria Harmon are additional Purdue players currently in the transfer portal. While it remains to be seen where the majority of these players will land, McLaughlin recently made her decision by joining the Marquette Golden Eagles.

The move by Traylor came after the announcement that 16-year head coach Sharon Versyp will be stepping down after next season. It’s clearly a time of shake ups for the Purdue women’s basketball program, who is currently left with 13 players going into next season.

Traylor was an absolute star in her junior season at Purdue, averaging 15 points per game as a second-team All-Big Ten player. She also had a career-high 31-point game during the year.

It will be interesting to see where Traylor lands, or if she pursues a school outside of Indiana. The basketball star is a local legend in the Martinsville, Ind. community, where she is the girls basketball program’s all-time leading scorer.

Traylor comes from an impressive family background as well, as both her aunt and mom played college basketball, while all three of her sisters play in high school at Martinsville.

Wherever she ends up, Traylor has made quite the impact at both Martinsville and Purdue, and will undoubtedly do the same with her next program.
