Wright State golf captures first team tournament title of season at The Jewell

DAYTON, Ohio (BVM) — The Wright State men’s golf team is back on the links and was able to capture its first team tournament title this week since last season.

Playing at The Jewell, the Raiders finished with an eleven-under team score to win the tournament. Impressively, six members of the Raiders’ team finished in the top-six individually as well.

The individual title was won by Wright State’s Mikkel Mathiesen, who finished the tournament seven-under. Wittenberg transfer Cameron Willis along with teammate Davis Root each finished in a tie for third, while Bryce Haney finished fifth. Austin Schoonmaker and Tyler Goecke — who was the last Raider to win an individual tournament title — finished three-over in a tie for sixth.

The last time Wright State had won a team tournament title came in March of 2020 at the Orlando Invitational. Now, the Raiders have their eyes set on their next tournaments coming up in mid-April.

It will begin with the Flyer Invitational, followed by the Wright State Invitational to be held April 18-19. The conference season will conclude with the Horizon League Championship April 25-27.
