Badgers are Big Ten volleyball champs once again

MADISON, Wis. (BVM) — Last night at the UW Field House, the University of Wisconsin volleyball team officially won its second Big Ten title in as many years, sweeping Michigan in straight sets, 25-23, 25-12, 25-11.

It is the first time the Badgers have won back-to-back Big Ten titles since the 2000 and 2001 seasons and their seventh title in program history.

Wisconsin was undefeated leading up to the matchup but started out rusty, only winning the first set against the 4-8 Wolverines by two points. However, the Badgers quickly found their rhythm and dominated the last two sets.

Senior Dana Retke tied her season high with 17 kills and only one hitting error on the night while fellow seniors Sydney Hilley and Lauren Barnes also played big roles in the Thursday night win. Hilley had a team-high 35 assists along with 10 digs to give Hilley her first double-double of the season. Barnes had a team-high 13 digs.

As a whole, the Wisconsin team hit .344, marking their 10th time this season hitting over .300 as team.

The Badgers improved to 14-0 on the season and after today’s win against Michigan carry an undefeated streak of 15-0 into the national tournament that will begin April 14.
