Catholic Memorial continues to roll behind dominant run game

WEST ROXBURY, Mass. (BVM) — Catholic Memorial took its home field for the first time in 16 months in its matchup against St. John’s Prep. Coming into the season as the preseason favorite, the No. 1ranked Knights have looked like many expected to open their year.

Led by a rushing unit that racked up 422 yards on the ground, the Knights power run game would prove to be too much for the Eagles’ defense. Even with a struggling passing attack, sophomore running back duo Datrell Jones (13 rushes, 230 yards) and Carson Harwood (16 rushes, 103 yards), combined for 333 yards in the Knights 49-24 victory over the Eagles.

Catholic Memorial’s win over the two-time Division I state champion has the team off to another hot start. In the Knights’ first game of the year, the team was able to overcome a sloppy start against St. John’s of Shrewsbury, beating the Pioneers 42-10.

With its 2-0 start to the season, Catholic Memorial will look to further its championship aspirations with its next matchup scheduled against Xaverian. The Knights are coming off an 11-1 season in 2019-20 with a playoff loss to St. John’s Prep putting an end to their perfect season.
