Eagles atop the 5A soccer rankings

CHAPIN, S.C. (BVM) — In the first South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings, the Chapin boys hold the No. 1 spot. They’ve started their season on a surge, getting out to an 8-0 record. A huge resurgence for a team which last season went 1-6 in a COVID-19-shortened year.

The Eagles have been led by the star-studded duo of sophomore Carson Graves and senior Stephen Jackson. Graves has 20 points as of now, getting them with a balanced combination of assists and scores. The sophomore has seven goals and six assists while senior Stephen Jackson is second on the team with 16 points. Jackson has led a balanced attack as well with six goals and four assists.

Even more impressive is that this success should be able to be sustained as the years go on. Of their nine players who have logged at least 200 minutes of play this season, six of them are either juniors or sophomores. Two of them are underclassmen, one being Graves and the other being Thomas Holstien.

Their next matchup comes Tuesday versus the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats who are currently undefeated in Class 3A at 5-0. The Eagles are a Class 5A team.
