Chad Morris set to lead Allen football

ALLEN, Texas (BVM) — After nearly four decades of being a head football coach, Allen High School head football coach Terry Gambill announced his retirement.

He announced his decision in mid-March and the announcement was probably surprising to most, considering the Eagles finished with a 10-1 overall record. Gambill was the head coach for five years at Allen and had an overall record of 65-4. He also won the 6A Division I Texas state championship.

As a head coach, Gambill has a lifetime record of 132-17.

With the announcement, many were wondering who would take over this prestigious job. Just last week, the high school football world found out that Chad Morris would be accepting the job.

“I am honored to join Allen ISD and the Allen Eagles football program,” Coach Morris said in a school press release. “Allen High School is known throughout the state and nation for having a storied tradition of excellence in everything it does, and the football team is certainly included in that discussion. My roots run deep in Texas high school football, and I’m excited for the opportunity to get back to coaching young student-athletes and making an impression on their lives.

As a coach, I’ll expect our students to work hard, but I want them to know that I care about their overall development as leaders both on and off the field. It’s my goal to establish a culture that can impact our student-athletes in a positive way, and I believe that will allow us to compete for championships on a consistent basis.”

Coach Morris was recently serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Auburn University this past season. He has also served as head coach at Southern Methodist University (SMU) and the University of Arkansas.

Morris also has 16 years of high school football coaching experience. He has won the UIL state championship three times and has appeared in the title game in six seasons. During his final two seasons at the high school level, he helped lead Lake Travis High School to back-to-back undefeated state championship seasons.

Along with that, Morris has posted an overall record of 169-38 at the high school level. He was awarded Coach of the Year 11 times. Morris also served as offensive coordinator at Clemson University, where he was named 2013 National Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.

“Coach Morris has proven himself time and again as an accomplished coach and respected leader, and he has reached high levels of success at both the high school and college ranks,” said Steve Williams, Allen ISD Athletic Director in the school’s press release. “Coach Morris will do everything he can to best support our students and coaching staff. He brings a national network of college coaching contacts, and hopefully this will result in even more resources and opportunities for our student-athletes.”
