Edgewood girls swimming makes it six in a row at state

WAUKESHA, Wis. (BVM) — On Wednesday, April 6 at Waukesha South High School, the Edgewood High School girls swimming team did something that has become somewhat expected from them.

The Crusaders won a WIAA state championship for the sixth straight year and in dominant fashion, beating second place Middleton by 64 points.

Led by coach Emily Schwabe and a young core of swimmers, Edgewood won seven events. Sophomore Izzy Enz won four titles, junior Abby Reid won three, junior Anna teDutis and sophomore Brynn Stacey both won two titles.

Prior to this year, Edgewood had won five straight WIAA Division II state titles, but this year was a bit different due to COVID. An alternate season was created for high schools and consisted of Division I and Division II teams.

The new competition didn’t phase the Crusaders and now they will look to extend their run into next season, which should be held in the fall as it normally is.

With the vast majority of the team returning as well, the Crusaders will enter the season once again the favorites to repeat.
