Mooresville baseball finally gets back on the diamond

MOORESVILLE, Ind. (BVM) — Last year, heartbreak was shared throughout the nation as high school spring sports were canceled. Perhaps one of the top sports impacted was baseball, as many players missed out on a chance to showcase their talents on the diamond.

But this spring, baseball is back, and the Mooresville Pioneers have started their season right. Last week, Mooresville held a scrimmage against Cathedral High School in preparation for the 2021 campaign.

That set the stage for the opening game of the season yesterday against rival Martinsville. Playing for the first time in over a year, the Pioneers did not take long to get back to their winning ways with a 10-3 victory over the Artesians.

Mooresville jumped on Martinsville early with three runs in the top of the second inning. They would finish the contest with 12 hits, led by senior Craig Perry who had a double, home run and two RBIs.

Nick Wiley and Brock Bodell added home runs for the Pioneers as well, while Brady Huntsman and Hogan Denny joined Perry with extra base hits of their own.

On the mound, starter Tommy O’Connor gave up three runs on three hits over four innings of work. O’Connor would earn the win with Wiley finishing out the game’s final three innings.

The rivalry will be renewed again tonight as Mooresville will host its first home game of the season with the Artesians coming to town. It is great to have baseball back for both teams, and the Pioneers will hope to keep their winning ways going.
