Husson basketball finishes with perfect season

BANGOR, Maine (BVM) — A shortened season wouldn’t stop Husson University from having one of its best basketball seasons to date. After starting their first game this season in February, the Eagles wouldn’t miss beat.

Led by senior guard DJ Bussey, the Eagles would complete their perfect season with a closing win against St. Joseph’s College. Bussey, who averaged 15.2 points per game in 2021, got off to a slow shooting start against the Monks, but would be picked up by fellow guard J Thomas, who went off for 23 points in the Eagles win. The game for Husson was for the first time in the season the Eagles were able to play in front of a small contingent of fans.

The 10-0 season by the Eagles comes off of a 12-15 year by the team in 2019-20. With the North Atlantic Conference canceling its 2020-21 season back in January due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Eagles had to play a more New Englandcentric schedule. Along with the schedule change, Husson was without a conference championship chance.

With the idea of a more regular season planned for the 2021-22 season, the Husson Eagles will look to return to a more familiar NAC schedule next year.
