Eagles look to pick up right where they left off

MADISON, Wis. (BVM) — The Edgewood College women’s tennis team begin their season tonight with a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup against Marian University at Powless Tennis Center.

The Eagles went 9-0 in conference play last season before the season was canceled due to COVID.

It was heartbreaking for a team coming off a 2019 season where they won the NACC regular season championship, the NACC Tournament Championship and made an appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Over the last three seasons, Edgewood has won 22 straight NACC regular season matches and will look to continue that against the Sabres.

Helping the Eagles continue that streak are seniors Alyssa Carew, Sydney Verbauwhede, Gigi Kuecker and Lydia Dean. Carew and Verbauwhede both have multiple All-NACC honors over their Edgewood careers.

The Eagles also feature the 2019-20 NACC Freshman of the Year Ally Verbauwhede, who also earned All-NACC Singles and Doubles Teams that same year.

The home opener tonight will not have fans in attendance but the hope is that at some point fans will be allowed to attend.
