Badgers advance to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals

MADISON, Wis. (BVM) — The University of Wisconsin women’s soccer team beat Northwestern over the weekend at McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison. It was for the Big Ten regional final and the opportunity to move on to the Big Ten Tournament semifinal.

The Badgers had beaten Northwestern earlier in the season 1-0 on the road, but this time Northwestern was the first to get on the scoreboard via a first half goal in the 37th minute by Lily Gilbertson.

The Wildcats would hold onto this lead for the remainder of the first half, but it was Cameron Murtha in the second half for the Badgers who tied the game up at 1-1 with a 58th minute goal.

Neither team would score again during regular or in the overtime that followed meaning the game would be decided in a shootout.

It was in the shootout that Wisconsin goaltender Jordyn Bloomer made two saves that along with goals from Emma Jaskaniec, Sammy Kleedtke, Claire Odmark and Lauren Rice gave the Badgers the win.

Now the Badgers will play Rutgers on April 18 in University Park, Penn. for a chance to play in the Big Ten Tournament championship against the winner of the Iowa vs. Penn State semifinal game.
