Iona Prep off to perfect start after routing state champs
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (BVM) — Iona Prep is making it known that it’s the team to beat in Catholic AAA football. After starting the season with a perfect 4-0 record, the Gaels would continue their hot start in a matchup against the reigning state champion Canisius Crusaders.
Led by senior quarterback Darius Wilson, the Gaels would put out a dominating performance, jumping out to a 56-7 blowout win over the Crusaders. Wilson, who passed for 199 yards, made sure to show his rushing ability by racking up 107 yards on the ground. The big day from the Gaels’ senior quarterback has Iona Prep at the top of the conference.

With his three touchdown day, Wilson made sure to rebound from a down performance against Archbishop Stepinac. The William & Mary commit has been an integral part to the Gaels’ 2021 aspirations and even without a Catholic state title game, Iona Prep has its eyes on another championship–caliber regular season.
The Gaels will look to build off their 28-14 win over Archbishop Stepinac early in the season, with a rematch upcoming.
