Lecanto’s Rice earns high 5A honors

LECANTO, Fla. (BVM) — After wrapping up her high school soccer career, Lecanto Panthers standout Ava Rice is going out with a bang. She was recently named the Florida Dairy Farmers 2021 Girls Soccer Class 5A Player of the Year after leading the team to an 18-4-1 record.

Rice also finished second in the Florida Dairy Farmers 2021 Miss Soccer award, behind Cardinal Gibbons’ Maddie Young, who led the Chiefs to a state championship.

This is a well-deserved accolade for the Old Dominion commit, who was a majority of the Panthers’ offense this season. She was lethal around the net all year long both in scoring and getting her teammates involved, finishing with 47 goals and 18 assists.

Her next stop will be in Norfolk, Va. to join the Monarchs who are currently 4-4-2 on the season and set to play the Rice University Owls in the C-USA quarterfinals on Tuesday. They’ll be losing seven seniors following the conclusion of the season, so Rice will have the opportunity to come in and earn playing time in her inaugural collegiate season.
