Warren East softball’s Markham throws perfect game in 4-0 win

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (BVM) — Warren East softball junior pitcher Emma Markham was perfect against Ashland Blazer High School on April 8, and that is no exaggeration. Markham was literally perfect as she pitched all seven innings without allowing a hit, a walk or the team having any errors for the Lady Raiders in their 4-0 victory.

Markham was untouchable all day as she delivered a flurry of pitches past the Tomcat hitters to the tune of 12 strikeouts. In addition to her proficiency of getting strikeouts, Markham didn’t have to use many pitches to get the Ashland Blazer batters out as she only threw 67 pitches throughout the contest, an average of just over nine pitches an inning.

From the plate, although she didn’t get a hit in the contest, Markham helped herself with an RBI in the contest. While Markham may have been the highlight of the game for the Lady Raiders, she was far from the only one to find success.

Emma Young added an RBI double while Lucy Patterson also added an RBI. Haylie Brasel hit .500 in the game with a triple and Lydia Jones added her second varsity hit of the season during the game to keep her average at 1.000.

The win brings the Lady Raiders to a 5-2 record on the season. Though it may not come with any trophies or hardware, the perfect performance will be one Markham remembers for a long time.
