Grunewald earns MIAA Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week honors

HOLLAND, Mich. (BVM) — The Hope College women’s volleyball team is off to a fast start this season, and it is thanks in large part to the spectacular play of Ana Grunewald.

The junior outside hitter had a standout performance in a 3-0 victory over Adrian College on April 7 when she recorded a season-high 16 kills.

For Grunewald, this was her fourth double-digit kill performance of the season, and she also had several digs and one service hit against Adrian. For her efforts, she was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Conference Athletic Association (MIAA) Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week.

It is the second time Grunewald has won the honor in what has been a spectacular career so far at Hope. The outside hitter also won the honor in 2019 when she was a first-team All-MIAA performer.

In her career, Grunewald has tallied over 500 kills and nearly 600 digs to pair with over 600 career points. So far in her abbreviated junior campaign, she has tallied well over 50 kills.

Grunewald along with many of her teammates have led Hope to a 5-0 start this season, with its most recent win coming Monday against Albion. The team has an eye on the MIAA tournament coming up next week, but will first do battle with Olivet on Wednesday and Calvin on Friday to conclude the regular season.
