Graham Steers fall to Vernon Lions in battle of top Texas baseball teams
GRAHAM, Texas (BVM) — This past Friday, Graham High School varsity baseball suffered its first district loss of the season. After an 8-2 defeat at the hands of Vernon High School, there is now a three-way tie for first place in the Class 5-4A standings.
The Lions scored all of their runs in the first couple of innings. A five-run third inning helped propel them to victory.
It was Cross Durham who led the Lions on offense. He went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and drove in one run. Jacob Boatman also helped the Lions to victory by going 2-for-4 at the plate and driving in one run. He also came across the plate once.
Neither team had a single extra-base hit the entire game.
When it was all said and done, the Lions came away with a six-run victory over the Steers. Graham only managed to record four hits the entire game.
With this loss, Graham, Vernon, and Iowa Park enter a three-team tie for first place in the district. It’s sure to be an exciting finish for the district title.
