UNM’s Kaitlynn Biassou named to All-Mountain West volleyball team

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (BVM) — The New Mexico Lobos didn’t have as much success on the volleyball court as they would’ve liked to during their shortened 14-conference match season which they finished earlier this month. But Kaitlynn Biassou was nothing if not a bright spot for UNM, and the sophomore outside hitter was rewarded for her strong season Monday when she was named to the All-Mountain West team.

Biassou recorded 137 kills and 214.5 points, averaging 3.3 kills per set and 4.0 points per set which ranked her sixth and fifth in the conference, respectively, for the Lobos who finished their abbreviated slate of matches with a 4-10 record. The Sparks, Nev., native played in all 53 sets and started all 14 matches and proved to be a strong all-around performer as she also racked up 124 digs, 24 blocks and a team-best 17 service aces. Biassou, who recorded 10-plus kills in 10 of the 14 matches, including a career-high 25 against in the season finale against Utah State, led UNM in kills, attack percentage and aces and was second in blocks and digs.

After a stellar Reno High School career during which she earned All-State status in both volleyball and basketball, Biassou made an immediate impact for the Lobos as a freshman in 2019 when she started all but one match, tied for the team lead in hitting percentage and recorded the third-most kills with 293 (2.66 per set). With Biassou having multiple years of eligibility left, the Lobos will look to build around the talented team captain as they try to find more success next season and beyond.
