Wuethrich earns back-to-back golfer of the week honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (BVM) — Illinois Wesleyan’s Rob Wuethrich has had an impressive golf career for the Titans, and he continues to add more accolades and success to his resume.

During the first week of April, Wuethrich was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Golfer of the Week. Shooting rounds of 67 and 73 that week to win the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, Wuethrich also helped lead the Titans to a team tournament title.

But his exceptional play did not stop there. Last week, Wuethrich also took home a win in the CCIW Preview with a one-under finish to pace the 70-player field. Once again, the senior also helped the Titans to a first-place team finish.

Wuethrich would help lead the Titans to their third team title later in the week at the Augustana Invitational, where he also finished second individually. For his incredible efforts yet again, Wuethrich was named the conference’s golfer of the week for the second week in a row.

The honor is actually the third in as many weeks for Illinois Wesleyan golfers, as Ethan Wilkins took home the award during the final week of March.

For Wuethrich, success on the links is nothing new. The Bloomington, Ill. native had a standout high school career at Normal Community, where he was a multi-time team captain, MVP and all-conference performer.

Wuethrich also achieved a third-place finish at state and had a 72-stroke scoring average during his prep career.

At Illinois Wesleyan, Wuethrich made a splash right away by winning the national Phil Mickelson Freshman Golfer of the Year Award. He followed that up by being named to the Division III PING second All-America team as a sophomore.

In a shortened season last year, Wuethrich improved to become a first team All-American while averaging 70 strokes per round as the Titans’ team MVP. He also broke a program record with a round of 64 at the Golfweek Fall Preview, and was a finalist for the DIII Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year Award.

With continued success this season, Wutethrich and his Titans’ teammates will now look ahead to the Take Back the Night Challenge coming up this weekend before CCIW championships begin at the end of the month.
