Boone County boys basketball’s Fields stays close to home with commitment to NAIA Thomas More

FLORENCE, Ky. (BVM) — Boone County High School senior basketball player Parker Fields in keeping his game not only in state, but practically in town. Fields committed to continue his basketball career collegiately at Thomas More University, an NAIA institution that sits approximately five miles from the Boone County High building.

This close proximity allowed for the Saints coaching staff to get an up close and personal look at Fields and did they get to see a lot of success. As a senior, Fields was clearly the top player for the Boone County Rebels as he led the team in both scoring and rebounds during the 19-game season with 16.5 and 6.3 per game, respectively.

Though the Rebels did not have a great finish as a team during the 2020-21 season with a record of 8-11, Fields stood out with his ability to score from all different spots on the floor, helping the team reach the first round of the 33rd district playoffs. This ability brought many eyes to Fields’ game as along with his offer from Thomas More, the senior also earned offers from fellow NAIA Brescia University and Division III Eastern Nazarene College.

For Thomas More and head coach Justin Ray, they will look to have Fields help a team that finished 17-10 last season and third in the highly competitive Mid-South Conference. Though the team was able to make it to the second round of the NAIA tournament, the addition of a local star will certainly help the Saints as they move ahead.

One thing is certain, Fields will bring plenty of Boone County fans along with him. It is only a short drive away after all.
