FLOWER MOUND, Texas (BVM) — This year has brought forth so many changes for so many athletes. One of the teams that has had to overcome those obstacles is the Marcus High School track team.

Last year, Marauders head track and field coach Steve Telaneus passed away. With the COVID restrictions, the team never had a chance to honor him. But this past Saturday, the team experienced one of the most satisfying moments in the program’s history.

At their home track, the Marauders were aiming to put another district championship trophy case. They did just that. Marcus won nine total events and placed in the top three in 13. With those results, it finished with 173.5 total points and coasted to another Class 6-6A district championship. It’s the Marauders’ first district championship since 2017.

Now with another district championship under its belt, Marcus will be gunning for a state championship. They haven’t won a state title since 2015.

It’s sure to be an exciting run for the Marauders.
