Middleton to play in its first-ever state championship

MIDDLETON, Wis. (BVM) — In his first season as head coach of the Middleton High School boys volleyball team, Rob Kleinschmidt has helped the Cardinals reach their first-ever state championship game.

The Cardinals will play Kimberly in Kaukauna this Saturday for the alternate fall season state title.

Middleton entered its sectional bracket as the No.1 seed. The Cardinals then beat Edgewood/Mad Country Day in four sets in the sectional semifinal. Next up was Racine Case in the sectional championship.

On Wednesday the Cardinals beat Case in three sets (25-21, 25-13, 25-21). Junior Cole Sweitzer led the team in kills with nine while senior Nick Stott had 38 assists and senior Ruben Emmerich had eight blocks.

The Cardinals are led by seven seniors as well as four juniors and will need that veteran leadership if they are to win their first-ever state title.
